How Pet Pantry came to be:
When Leyna decided to earn her Girl Scout Silver Award she wanted a project that could help both animals and people. Leyna also wanted to work with an organization that could reach both. She met with Audrey Wallace of 5 Loaves Food Pantry and approved the project.
Leyna noticed an increase in pets being surrendered to animal shelters because families affected by the pandemic didn’t have the resources to care for them properly. She has grown up with pets all her life and loves animals. She wants pets and their families to stay together. She also wanted to recycle as many items as possible for this project. Leyna and her mom searched the Facebook Marketplace for items they could use for the project and donated pet supplies.
She started with a donated armoire making some necessary repairs and modifications to support a free-standing Pet Pantry. Leyna wanted to provide food and other pet-related items for our local community in need. One of the aspects of the Girl Scout Silver Award is sustainability. She reached out to several pet food manufacturers for immediate donations as well as long-term quarterly donations. Along with those donations, local pet supply stores donated, such as Petsmart, Hollywood Feed, Tractor Supply, and Home Depot. Leyna set up several pet food drives over the course of these last 2 years. With these donations, she has been able to keep The Pet Pantry filled. She even made 100 Christmas baskets for cats and dogs in Dec. 2021 for 5 Loaves Christmas drive-thru.
Leyna has been a Girl Scout for 10 years. She loves working with the community and making the world a better place. She plans to work with 5 Loaves Food Pantry for her Girl Scout Gold Award in the coming year.

Hours and Days of Operation:
- Tuesdays: 10 am – 12 pm
- Thursdays: 10 am – 12 pm, and 5 pm – 7 pm
- Saturday: 10 am – 12 pm
